1, 3-5, 8. Singletons, ranges and any mix, comma-separated. Spaces are ignored. The whole operation runs in this browser tab, so nothing is uploaded at any point.
The expression is the same one used across the site. 7 removes one page. 7-12 removes six. 1,4-6,20 removes five pages from three different places in a single pass.
Two details worth knowing. Page numbers refer to the document's actual page positions, counting from 1 — not to any numbers printed on the pages, which frequently disagree because of cover sheets and front matter. And numbers beyond the end of the document are ignored rather than treated as errors, so a stray entry will not stop the job.
Removals are calculated against the original document, so you never have to account for the shift as earlier pages disappear. 3, 7 removes the third and seventh pages of the file you loaded, not the third page and then whatever ends up seventh afterwards.
If you find yourself typing a long removal list to keep four pages out of sixty, you want the other tool. Split PDF in Extract specific pages mode takes the list of pages to keep and produces a document containing only those — the same result with a much shorter expression and far less chance of a typo.
A simple rule: if the list of pages to remove is longer than the list of pages to keep, use Split instead.
The pages you keep are copied across as objects, not re-rendered. Text stays selectable and searchable with its embedded fonts, images keep their exact pixels, vector art stays sharp, and each page keeps its own size and rotation. Deleting pages never degrades the ones that remain.
Two things do shift, and both have a one-step fix. Printed page numbers are ink on the page, so a document that ran 1 to 20 and lost page 5 will show 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 — run Add Page Numbers over the result for a correct sequence. And bookmarks continue to point at page positions that now hold different content, so rebuild the outline once the page set is final if navigation matters for that document.
The file gets smaller, though not always in proportion to the pages removed: a document is only as light as the resources its remaining pages still reference. Deleting the ten photograph pages out of a 30-page report saves a lot; deleting ten text pages saves little. For real size reduction, Compress PDF is the tool.
Duplex scanning is the biggest single source of unwanted pages, and the blanks are not always obviously blank. A sheet printed on one side still has a reverse, and the scanner dutifully captures it — as a page carrying faint show-through from the printing on the front, a grey cast from the scanner lid, or a thin line of shadow along one edge. It looks empty at thumbnail size and it is not.
A quick way to find them: open the PDF in any viewer, set the zoom so several pages fit on screen, and scroll through looking for the pale ones. Note the numbers as you go, then type them here in one go — 2, 4, 6, 8 for a document where every second page is a reverse.
When the whole document alternates content and blank, the list is simply every even number, and it is quicker to type than it looks. For a long document, Reorder Pages shows the same thumbnail grid and makes the pattern obvious at a glance before you come back here.
One caution worth the ten seconds: check that an apparently blank page really is blank before removing it. Continuation pages, intentionally blank pages in legal documents ("this page left blank"), and pages carrying only a footer or an exhibit stamp all look empty in a thumbnail and all matter.
Printed numbers are part of the page content, so they carry on saying what they said and the sequence will have a gap. Add Page Numbers stamps a correct run across the finished document and can skip a cover page before it starts counting.
Your original file is never modified — the tool produces a new document and leaves the source untouched. If the output is not what you wanted, load the original again and run it with a corrected list.
No. The PDF you upload is read only. Everything happens in memory in this browser tab and the result arrives as a separate download, so the file on your disk stays exactly as it was.
Use Split PDF in Extract specific pages mode and give it the pages to keep. Shorter to type and far less error-prone than listing everything you want gone — worth switching to whenever the removal list is the longer of the two.
Yes. The output is built from the pages you kept, so the removed pages and their content are not carried into it. For sensitive material inside a page you are keeping, Redact PDF rebuilds that page without the underlying text.
Yes. The operation works at the page boundary and does not care whether a page holds text objects or a scanned image.
Unlock it first with Protect PDF, delete the pages, then re-apply the password to the result with the same tool.
No. The PDF is read and the new document written entirely inside this browser tab, then handed to your downloads folder. Go offline before you start and the tool still works.
Privacy: Page-removal runs locally with pdf-lib. Your document never touches a server. Close the tab and every byte is gone from our side.
